The Quashnet School Stands for Equity and Justice

Good Afternoon Quashnet School Community,

At this point, most of you are probably aware that earlier this week hateful symbols were spray-painted on a building in our Mashpee community. There is “No Place for Hate” in our Mashpee Community, and all are welcome at the Quashnet school.

The Quashnet school stands for equal opportunity for all students no matter race, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. Our students should never have to get on the bus to come to Quashnet and see symbolism that degrades others. Martin Luther King mentions in his letters how silence can be, "a great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom". That is why now is the time to have conversations with our children reinforcing the importance of peace, justice, acceptance of all, and equity.

If you need support in navigating these conversations, please reach out.  Superintendent DeBoer’s Wednesday letter, linked here, also contained guidance.  We need to be role models for our children, the leaders of tomorrow. We must demonstrate through our words and actions that Mashpee is a “No Place for Hate.”

Best regards,

Mr. Switzer

Quashnet School Principal

Report Card Envelopes

Report cards went home to families of Quashnet students this past Thursday, March 21. Please sign your child's report card envelope and send the envelope back to school to be returned to their teacher by this Thursday, March 28. The signed envelopes are how we make sure students are held accountable for making sure their parents see their report cards.

QS Student Council at School Committee

This past Wednesday the Quashnet Student Council presented at the school committee. Saying they were incredible is an understatement. It was so impressive to see such a display of a talented group of young leaders, present so eloquently to elected officials. They made the Quashnet School very proud!

No Place for Hate - Activity 2

On April 1, 2024, the Quashnet School will be participating in our second No Place for Hate Activity. In this activity, students will be making an Identity Iceberg (seen below), all about themselves. Students will discuss how and why we respect differences within the school community. Students will also have the opportunity to meet another student from another grade level and learn about someone they may not typically encounter daily. If you have any concerns about your child participating, please reach out to me directly, at eswitzer@mpspk12.org.

Career Day Upcoming - Please Share Your Expertise with Students!

English Language Arts MCAS Upcoming

April 2 & 3, 2024 is ELA MCAS testing at the Quashnet School. The best thing you can do as a parent is to encourage your child to take their time, try their best on the test, and make sure they get a good night's sleep the night before. If all parents can do those two things, that will go a long way toward the success of the school as a whole and all our students individually succeeding on the test.

Solar Eclipse

On April 8th, Quashnet students will have the opportunity to view the Solar Eclipse here at school. All classes will go outside together to watch part of the Solar Eclipse. The school has purchased viewing glasses for all students and staff for that day, so everyone is able to keep their eyes safe.

Quashnet Office Closed over April Break

Please be aware that the Quashnet School office will be closed over April break,  April 15-19, so do not plan to conduct business with the school that week.

Night to Shine

Thursday, April 4, 2024, is Night to Shine at the Quashnet School. Students have the opportunity to share their musical, written, and verbal talents with the community, highlighting their talents in the performing arts. Several of our students have been working hard to prepare performances for our school. I hope many of you choose to attend.
