December 19, 2021

Dear Quashnet School Community,

We are so fortunate to be a part of such a caring community. Working as a team of educators, parents, students, and law enforcement personnel, we are able to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.  The staff at Quashnet School kept students engaged and focused throughout the day on Friday as always. I am grateful for our community who always puts students first.

Congratulations to more big winners for the PTO Falcon Bucks! Raffle winners will be called by the PTO board and checks may be picked up at the Quashnet School office.  If you are unable to pick up your winnings, please let the PTO know and it will be mailed to you.  THANK YOU for supporting the PTO and Quashnet School.

Congratulations to Noah Riker, who will be Principal for the Day on December 22. He had the top sales of Falcon Bucks.  Dominick Campbell will share that responsibility as Assistant Principal for the Day also on December 22, having the second most sales.
Everyone wins with the PTO!
All proceeds go directly to support students and classrooms.

ST MATH Puzzle Talk
ST Math is an exploration and practice tool for math learning. It is also an instructional tool. Puzzle Talks use ST Math puzzles to engage students in classroom discussions about the math presented in the puzzles. It allows teachers to connect the visual representation of the concepts to strengthen students’ ability to communicate their mathematics knowledge in writing, speaking, calculating, and model making. Though made for teachers, the video below gives a great overview of teachers using ST Math Puzzle Talks (Math Chats) in classrooms.

Mashpee Christmas Parade

Well done Quashnet Student Student Council, Mr. Williams, Ms. Maggiacomo, Mrs. Hill, and Mrs. Boyd, and our fifth-grade singers for earning the Best Children's Entry in the 2021 Mashpee Christmas Parade. We are celebrating diversity by recognizing Students Around the World. Check out some of the pictures from the event on the photo tab above.

Thank you students and families for sharing such creative gingerbread structures.  We had a baseball stadium, firehouse, doghouse, the Quashnet School, winter wonderlands, castles, and villages which have been enjoyed by all.  Enjoy the photos on the tab above.
Please pick up your family structure on Monday if possible, but definitely before the end of the school day on Tuesday, December 21.  Any remaining structures will need to be disposed of.

Some lost items have been found, but the lost collection is still quite large. I would love to know who all these kids are that leave their clothes at Quashnet School (haha) because no one seems to claim these jackets and sweatshirts! If something is missing, please remind your child to check lost and found in the cafe. All items remaining after Thursday, Dec. 23, will be donated over break.

This is a short week at MPS, and after school clubs WILL meet on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The late bus WILL be available both days.  Thursday, December 23 is an Early Release Day with student dismissal at 12:30 PM. There will be NO after school, school-based clubs, on Thursday, 12/23. Adventure Club and Boys and Girls Club will be available for members.

We were disappointed that the Quashnet Theatre Club was unable to perform at Mashpee Commons this weekend due to the weather. Under the leadership of Ms. Annessi, students have been rehearsing their roles in A Christmas Carol.                                                                            The performance has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 8, in the Commons.  I hope to see you there!

There will be NO BLOG Sunday, December 26. The next post will be on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Reminder: If you have not sent back your child's signed report card envelope, please do so asap. Thank you :-)

The holiday break gives us all time to regroup, reflect, and spend time with family and friends.  I hope you are all able to enjoy some time off from your busy schedules. I wish you all a healthy, safe, and joyous Christmas, holiday season, and a very happy New Year!

With gratitude,
Principal O'Brien
