This week is:  Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

May 6, 2018

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Tomorrow, Monday, May 7th, is an EARLY RELEASE day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM.  If there are any change in regular dismissal plans for your child(ren) please be sure to send in a note with dismissal instructions.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Monday, 5/7/18, is the LAST DAY to order your Square 1 art products.  Our wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Richards, was able to extend the deadline through tomorrow.

Congratulations to fourth grader Ciara Hendricks!  Ciara was the winner of the bike that was raffled off to help support a Quashnet family dealing with extensive medical needs. When we were drawing the name of the winner, one of our incredible volunteers was in the office.  They inquired about the raffle.

This volunteer was so impressed with the generosity and care of the Quashnet community, he matched the donations! Another fabulous reason why it is GREAT TO BE IN MASHPEE!!!!!

This could not have been done without the generous donation of the bicycle and all of the donations.  THANK YOU QUASHNET COMMUNITY and ride safely Ciara!

It is such a privilege to be able to visit classrooms everyday.
Last week, I went into a 6th grade class and saw this basket of used post-it-notes.  I asked the teacher why there were SO many.  Without hesitation, Mrs. Geggatt was thrilled to share her students' thinking from WIN block. As her 6th graders read, they ask questions, write down words, make connections, and share ideas.

In a music class, lessons are posted and purposeful as seen on this white board.

Teachers and staff support students in class, on the playground, in the cafeteria, in special subjects, plus more!

As we recognize teachers and staff this week, nothing is more meaningful than a thank you

Mrs. Kett, MPS Director of College and Career Readiness, shared a list of acceptances for the Class of 2018.
Wow!

Our kids are doing amazing things.
Strong home/school connections make a difference - we are a connected community!

Construction update:

Phase 1A is almost set and we have moved onto Phase 1B. Grade three students returned to their classrooms on Thursday, and some Grade 4 + students moved to temporary classrooms. You can see the new windows around back of the building, and it is looking good!

Below is an important message from Superintendent DeBoer:

After over two years of discussion, public outreach and engagement, the Mashpee School Committee will vote on May 9, 2018, on whether to change student school start times in our district for the school year starting in 2019.  A group of dedicated volunteers and school officials formed a School Start Times Committee in November 2015 to review the research and to gather community input for recommendations.  More information can be found by visiting:  https://mashpeesstc.blogspot.com/

The School Committee held a public hearing on student school start times at its April 4, 2018 meeting.  Members discussed this topic at their meeting on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.  Options being considered are as follows:

A.  No Change:  MMHS student school day:  7:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Quashnet School student school day:  8:15 AM - 2:45 PM
Coombs School student school day:  8:20 AM - 2:50 PM

B.  MMHS student school day:  8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Coombs and Quashnet student school day:  7:30 AM - 2:00 PM

C.  MMHS student school day:  8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Coombs and Quashnet student school day:  9:05 AM - 3:35 PM

D.  Slight alterations to the times shown in Option B or Option C.

Parents and staff are encouraged to share their thoughts with School Committee members via email:

Next Sunday, May 13th is Mother's Day.
Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Wishing you a productive week ahead.
       Respectfully,
            Mrs. O'Brien
