Mrs. McCue, Nurse Stacy, Deputy Cahill

Last Monday, was the first session of the Botvin LifeSkills Training with Mrs. McCue, Nurse Stacy, and Deputy Shaun Cahill. Tomorrow, Monday, 3/19, the team will be facilitating a discussion on children coping with anxiety and stress. The sessions are for parents and guardians and meet at either 8:30 am or at 5:30 pm. If you would like to join the discussion, it is never too late.  Please call the Quashnet Office, 508-539-1550 to register. Dinner is served for the evening session, so a head count is helpful. Babysitting is available for the evening session.  The last of the series is on Monday, 3/26 focusing on substance use.  Get connected to others, learn strategies, and know you are never alone with concerns and the desire to support/protect your child(ren).

March 29,  6:00 pm - Quashnet School Talent Show at MMHS.
Another awesome night to celebrate our talented students. Come for a fabulous night of entertainment!

Bravo, bravo to our outstanding musicians and music teachers, Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Boyd! Last Thursday night was the Music in Our Schools Concert.  It is SO impressive to see the growth in the students over their school career. Every parent/guardian should be so proud of their Quashnet student.  It was a long evening and Quashnet kids were patient, respectful and attentive to others -talk about being Falcon Five followers! I am looking forward to seeing the Little Mermaid next weekend. The collaboration with MMHS inviting Quashnet students to perform in the spring musical is a wonderful opportunity.  Hope you can come out and make the show. Times are posted on the weekly calendar.

MCAS is coming, MCAS is coming! The first week in April, all students at Quashnet will be participating in the computer-based ELA MCAS. Students work on skills all year that are aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. This is not a test to study for, rather an assessment for students to show all that they know.  We ask that they use all reading and writing strategies that they have been taught. They are instructed to take their time, as MCAS is NOT a timed test. Please do not worry or be anxious about testing and reassure your child(ren) - it should be viewed as a time to celebrate learning and give a very best effort. This link will take you to website where you can view a practice test and see the type of questions your child(ren) will be asked by grade level:  http://mcas.pearsonsupport.com/student/practice-tests-ela/At the top of the tool bar their are also practice tests for mathematics which will administered to all grades the first week in May. Science, Tech & Engineering (Grade 5 only) is also listed. Please note, a portion of our school rating is based on test participation - attendance is critical!

Thank you families for your support last week during the snow and change in Friday's schedule. Hopefully spring will be here soon!  Before this snow - the crocuses were up in the front of school - so there is hope!

A question came up last week at Quashnet for
Mr. Gus Stickley, food services director.

What is a falcon cheese steak?

In case you were wondering that too, here you go!

We all need a good laugh once in a while!!  :-)

Have a great week ahead everyone-

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
