February 4, 2018

Greetings Quashnet School Community

Based on the New England Patriot spirit in school on Friday,  I am sure everyone is ready to focus on the big game starting soon!  I can't imagine a school with more Patriot Pride than right here at Quashnet.  The kids looked great in their Patriot gear, the classrooms were all decked out, the front office had a ticket booth, and popcorn for all was available in the cafe during lunch, with last year's game on the big screen.  Wow - what a day!  Be sure to check out the pictures on the tab above.  These special event days in school are important.  They foster a spirit of collaboration, strengthens the classroom community, and creates a positive culture in the school. We appreciate Superintendent DeBoer, School Resource Office Brett Calhoun,  Sergeant Michael Assad, and Mrs. Avtges for their time as our classroom judges. They sure had a tough job this year selecting the classrooms with the most spirit, but the trophies go to the Wicked Wall of Winner from Mrs. Schreiner's class in Grade 3, the Do Your Job Team of Miss Keohane and Miss Forsberg classes in the Grade 4, Blitz for Six was the winner in Grade 5 in Mr. Bedard's class, and in Grade 6 it was Fans in the Stands in Mr. Williams' class. Way to go Quashnet!

Speaking of pride - be sure to come out this Friday night to support the Quashnet School parents and staff as they take on their counter parts from KCC.  This is an action packed night of entertainment and I happen to know there is a riveting halftime show planned. The action takes place right here at the Quashnet School gym starting at 6:00 PM. Wear your Mashpee BLUE!

Have you ever attended the recital night at Quashnet School?  This Thursday at 5:30 PM in the Quashnet cafe, students will be sharing their musical talents.  Student performances may include vocals or instruments, solos, duets, or more. It is a wonderful opportunity to support our young musicians.  Pictured left is Samara performing with her dad from last year's recital night.  Looking forward to another great night this year!

Construction Update:  I met with Mashpee Deputy Fire Chief Phelan this week to ensure safety evacuation plans are in place during construction.  This is a necessary step in the process as some fencing will be installed in select areas around our school.  In the case of a fire drill or actual emergency we want to ensure the safety of all students and staff by knowing that the fencing does not impact any egress areas.

If you are in the building, you will see the books off many of the shelves along the walls in the library.  Mrs. Pons, our librarian, is working to update our book collection, but this move is also for a painting project. Over February break, the DPW will be painting the library. This is not part of the construction project but a necessary update and maintenance to our school. Quashnet School is going to be looking good! Thank you for the support from Catherine Laurent and her DPW team.

Almost time for the game....
GO PATS! Let's Blitz for SIX!

Be sure to check out the pictures from the week on the photo tab above. Wishing you all a SUPER week ahead.

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
