December 31, 2017
Mrs. Geggatt and Mrs. McBrien

Happy New Year Quashnet Community!

Wishing you all a wonderful 2018! I hope it is a great year of happiness, health, and success.

Please be sure to click on the 2017-2018 photo tab above.  FAMILY PHOTOS from LifeTouch are posted in the December 18th link that were taken at the pasta supper. If you have any trouble accessing the pictures, please send an email to me at mobrien@mpspk12.org and I will send your pictures to you directly.  You will also find links to great pictures from each week on that tab.  Check it out!

Hopefully you all have had a peaceful holiday break. As you know, school resumes on Tuesday, January 2. This second half of the year really moves quickly and being in school is so important. The pace of instruction increases and academic expectations are on the rise. Over the vacation week, the custodians have been doing their part by working hard to clean and disinfect the school.  All lockers and doors have been disinfected, classrooms cleaned and floors are ready to go. Let's just hope the weather cooperates and it only snows on weekends!  If we do have a snow day, hopefully not, but you will receive notification from the superintendent. You will also be able to find any school cancelations or delays on the following TV stations:  NECN, WBZ, Ch. 7, Fox 25, WCVB. Radio stations are: WCIB, WCOD, WXTK, WEII, WQRC, Ocean 107.5, Country 104.

Grade 3 Parents and Guardians - all third graders are scheduled to go on a field trip in January to the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Please be on the look out for a permission slip but it is also important to know - NO STUDENT CAN GO ON A FIELD TRIP WITHOUT UPDATING your child's REGISTRATION INFORMATION.  This is a process that needs to be completed every year and ensures that we have the correct contact information for you and medical information including allergies and/or medications.  This is critical in the event of an emergency.  If you need help in this process, please call the office and we will be happy to assist you (508)539-1550.

A very special shout-out to Dino's, Southport, Barnstable County Sheriff's Department, E.J. Jaxtimer Landscaping, Mashpee Police, Mashpee Town Hall employees, Cape Cod Church, Toys for Tots, Quashnet Staff, Mashpee Kiwanis, Ninety-Nine Restaurant, and all who purchase Patriot raffle tickets for supporting the Quashnet Family Falcon Fund.  This is one connected community that cares.  THANK YOU!

Reminder for student drop off - PLEASE wait in the drop-off line.  If students get out along the entire length of the sidewalk, 11 cars  can move through the line at one time. This allows the line to move quickly. When students do not get out along the length of the walkway, it slows the line down because you need to stop again.  This is a live drop-off, students should be ready to hop out of the car. Please do not drop your children on the other side of the island unless you are walking into school too. For safety sake, only cross at the crosswalk.  The doors open to school at 8:00 AM. Students should not be dropped off before that time, with the exception of students participating in Lexia club or floor hockey.  I appreciate your cooperation for the safety of all.

Construction update! You might have read in the Mashpee Enterprise that a general contractor has been hired for the Quashnet School Repair Project. The total scope of the project includes a new roof, replacement of all exterior doors and windows, the EFIS system (stucco area around the exterior of the building) will be replaced, and the bathrooms will be brought up to code.  Although the bulk of the work will be done over the summer, we will see signs of activity and prep work potentially starting soon.  Over this vacation week, contractors measured all the windows and exterior doors.  Some prep work in the ceiling near the art room is expected over February break, and the entire building will be power washed over April vacation. There will be construction beginning soon after that. The focus  is on student learning and safety first.  Any and all contractors you may see on school grounds will have a background check and issued a pass to be here. As the dates and locations of the work become solidified, I will be sharing that through regular updates.  We are very thankful for the Town's support with this project - our kids deserve a school to be proud of and one that doesn't leak! :-)
