October 29, 2017

Greetings Quashnet School Families,

Have you seen the book fair yet?  Well giddy-up and try to come to one of the book fair breakfasts this week.  Mr. Gus Stickley and his crew are sure to be serving up some great grub! Thank you PTO for organizing the book fair for students and families.  This is one rodeo not to miss!

Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for November 30th and December 4th .  Please use this link to sign-up for a conference with your child's teacher by choosing the date and time that works for you.  https://goo.gl/KXcRBg.  Should you have any difficulties, call and we will be happy to help.

Halloween is on Tuesday! It will be orange and black day at Quashnet School. No face painting or costumes please!

Our Quashnet K-Kids will once again be collecting Halloween candy for the troops.  After trick-or-treating, please consider donating any unwanted candy.  There will be a container outside the front office.  This will be the 16th year our students will box up candy filled with handwritten notes to send to the troops.  We have shipped boxes all over the world and have heard from many soldiers how our kids bring sweet smiles to those who serve away from home.  If you have a family member serving overseas, please email  jrastallis@mpspk12.org with their  name and address so we can be sure to send them one of these special care packages.

K-Kids thanks you all for your support of the Hurricane Relief campaign.  Over $700 has been collected to date.  Quashnet families care - thank you!

Have you ever considered the amount of time we all spend focused on technology? It may be with a phone, iPad, tablet, video games, tv, or any other device.  In school, students are using technology  every day for educational purposes.  To maintain a healthy balance of exercise, conversation, and family time please consider limiting screen time at home.  Stay tuned in for a Quashnet School community challenge coming soon!

Calling all veterans - please RSVP to ewunder@mpspk12.org or epagano@mpspk12.org if you are able to attend our annual Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 8th at Quashnet.  All veterans are welcome to attend.

MCAS is coming, MCAS is coming! Spring 2017 ELA and Mathematics individual student results will be mailed to families on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.  You will see your child's score in comparison to the district and state performance. Should you have any questions regarding the test, your child's performance, or interpreting the results, please do not hesitate to call or email me at mobrien@mpspk12.org.  If you have had a recent change in your mailing address, please notify the Quashnet office asap (508-539-1550).

On Monday, October 30th, we are happy to welcome the Cape and Island's District Attorney's Office to Quashnet School.  Fifth and sixth grade students will learn about the impact and consequences associated with cyber bullying.  Thank you to our School Resource Officer Brett Calhoun for arranging this for our students.

Follow the Falcon Five!
Yesterday, was National Prescription Drug Take Back Day - in case you missed the drop off on Saturday, there are locations where you can dispose of old or unwanted prescription drugs year round.  Use this link to find one close to you - Drop Off Locations.  Help keep your family and others safe and dispose of these unwanted prescriptions.

For all of our trick-or-treaters, have a fun and safe Halloween!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
