January 17, 2016

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

I hope you are all enjoying this long weekend with extra time to spend with family and friends.  Be sure to ask your child why we have Monday off.  Students in all grade levels were learning about Dr. Martin Luther King and the impact he has had on our country.   "The time is always right to do what is right." MLK.

Research shows when there is a strong home/school connection student achievement dramatically increases.  It was great to see so many parents and family members attending the concert this week, thank you for asking about technology and to those parents who attended the tech night, and of course, the on-going contact with teachers to support your scholar(s) is vital.  Ask questions and seek support when needed.  Progress Reports will be available on PowerSchool January 27.

Sixth Grade Families:  This Tuesday, January 19, is another great opportunity to build those home/school connections.  The following is a message from Mashpee Middle/High School Principal Balestracci:

I would like to cordially invite you to attend the Mashpee Middle/High School Program of Studies Open House Night on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 6-8pm.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the academic and extra-curricular programs offered at MM/HS.  The evening will begin at 6pm with a short presentation in the MM/HS Auditorium and will be followed by tours of each department where the faculty and administration will be available to provide specific course information and will answer any questions you may have.   We encourage you to attend this event with your child to learn more about the unique and innovative programs offered at Mashpee Middle/High School.  I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, January 19th.

QS CLUBS:  Being involved in extra-curricular activities helps students feel connected to school and build friendships beyond the classroom.  Session 1 clubs conclude the last week of January, but Session 2 clubs begin the first week of February! The sign-up link is below.  Please note - K-Kids, Student Council, Lexia, and Honor Society are yearly clubs so they do not appear on the link.  Basketball and floor hockey are continuing.

Every fall, we ask our families to register their Stop and Shop card with the A+ program to benefit Quashnet School.  To date, I am happy to report that we have earned $3,339.20. These funds are used for field trips, special activities, and club supplies to name a few.  We truly APPRECIATE your support! It is never too late to register your card. Please call Jane Emery or Ellie Pagano in the main office and they can help get you registered (508-539-1550)! Participation in the A+ Program does not have any impact on your gas points. : )

Last Friday, was very unsettling for many in Mashpee with a bomb threat called into MMHS.  Please know that your child's safety is our first priority.  Emergency protocols are in place and followed. If you did not receive an automated call from Acting Superintendent DeBoer regarding the incidence on Friday, please notify the Quashnet office.  We will update our records to ensure you receive automated calls. These calls are made for emergency situations as well as for special notices.

Wishing you all a happy and productive week ahead-

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien

               GO PATS!
