December 20, 2015

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

This is a short week ahead.  We will be in school Monday-Wednesday. The winter/holiday break begins on Thursday, December 24th and school reopens on Monday, January 4, 2016.  Please note, there will be no after school clubs meeting on Tuesday or Wednesday this week.  After school clubs will resume the week of January 4.

Thank you to all those who attended the Winter Concert.  Mrs. Hill, Ms. Sherman, and Quashnet chorus students put in many hours preparing for the performance and it really showed. Well done! As always, Mr. Gus Stickley did a great job baking gingerbread men for the evening. Mrs. Stickley and Mrs. McCue prepared 200 cookie kits for all to enjoy.  It was wonderful to see so many happy faces! The gingerbread village transformed the front lobby of the school.  I hope you had a chance to see it and enjoy the creativity! Families, please be sure to pick up your creations before Wednesday. Any structures remaining after dismissal on Wednesday, Dec. 23 will be disposed of. Thank you for participating in this wonderful tradition.

Today, the Mashpee Falcons Unified Sports Special Olympians took to the court in a basketball competition at Barnstable High School.  Sportsmanship and teamwork was the name of the game.  You are Falcon strong! Thank you to Coach Williams and Ms. Murray for your dedication, organization, and support.

Congratulations to all our athletes on two well-played games!

It was wonderful to be able to recognize so many students on Thursday who had perfect attendance for Term 1 and/or outstanding effort in their work.  A student is recognized for perfect attendance when they have been in school every day, never late or dismissed.  Effort dog tags recognized students who consistently went above and beyond with their work during Term 1.  Five students were awarded the  Falcon Award, formerly known as the Good Egg Award.   Nominations for the Falcon Award were made by students, teachers, or staff members, and the winners were selected by a committee who reviewed all the nominations received.  Congratulations to Grade 3- Jordan Fernandes, Grade 4- Keelin Fraser, Grade 5- Maya Brainson and Jocelyn Cohen, Grade 6 Celeste Bold for being Falcon Five followers and excellent role models for all!

We were very lucky to have Mashpee High School students come to Quashnet School on Friday to share their self-made robots with Quashnet students.  Mr. Looney, Mrs. Hough, and  Mrs. Giuggio worked together to show our students what STEM is all about.  Quashnet students were engaged, learning, and helped control the robots as they navigated obstacle courses, bowled, and catapulted balls, etc. We welcome MMHS to come to QS again to share their expertise.  Students teaching students!  It's great to be in Mashpee!

Be sure to check out  other great pictures from the week on the
photo tab above.

I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead and a
terrific holiday season filled with many opportunities to
enjoy family and friends!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
