COMMUNITY "SNEAK A PEEK" at QUASHNET:  AUGUST 28TH (1:00 - 2:00 PM)
Students and their families are invited to walk through our school and visit their classrooms.  Teachers will still be hard at work getting ready for the start of school.  We hope that this opportunity will help ease some of the first-day jitters often experienced by students and parents (and teachers).  This is not meant to be a parent-conference time--just brief introductions and getting a "lay of the land."  We hope all are able to attend.

DEAR QUASHNET SCHOOL COMMUNITY,
The Quashnet School staff is very excited to be starting a new school year.  We are looking forward to welcoming our returning scholars and those who are new to our school on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.  Our school is a wonderful learning community.  We hope you will enjoy reading this BLOG on a weekly basis.
We encourage our parents to visit our school during the school day.  We are always in need of volunteers to help make the school experiences better for our students.  We also encourage you to come and share a recess or a lunch with your child.
Our teachers have been working very hard getting ready for the arrival of our fabulous scholars.  Summer is not just a time of rest for teachers.  Teachers have learned new instructional strategies and revisited their current practices, have studied content, and have gained technology literacy and skills to help improve student learning.
Positive student behavior is promoted through our “Falcon Five” program.  Throughout the school year we focus on the qualities of good character.  Students are encouraged to demonstrate behaviors that indicate they are safe, respectful, responsible, caring, and ready.  We work very hard and proactively every day to assure that no student is a victim of bullying or other negative, hurtful behavior.  Careful attention is given to every situation.  Communication between the school and parents is an absolute necessity.  We will be working hard to provide our students with strategies and skills to promote positive social interaction and to build inner resilience. Mindful education and Responsive Classroom practices will help in these areas. The emotional well-being of each student must be addressed in order for academic achievement to be maximized.  We are passionate about what we do and thoughtful and strategic in how we do it.  Our mission at the Quashnet School, in partnership with parents, families, and the community, is to educate, support, and celebrate all students.
The special qualities in each member of our school community are celebrated. Together we will make our school the best that it can be!  On a moment-by-moment basis, we build the foundation for tomorrow.  We are grateful for the opportunity we have been given to serve the families of Mashpee.   Please call us with any comments, questions, or concerns.

With Gratitude,
Patty DeBoer, Principal
Tim Rumberger, Assistant Principal

QUASHNET SCHOOL COUNCIL WILL NEED 3 PARENT REPRESENTATIVES
We are in need of three parent representatives to serve on the 2014-2015 Quashnet School Council.  Please contact me if you are interested, and we will include your name on the ballot.  Our Council meets about every six weeks.  This advisory group works on developing our school’s improvement plan, developing budget priorities, reviewing and recommending parent/student handbook changes, looking at student achievement, and working on other initiatives to help improve student learning.  VOTING WILL TAKE PLACE DURING OUR OPEN HOUSE ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH.

PLEASE SEND IN A FAMILY PHOTO
WE ARE LOOKING TO FILL OUR FRONT HALL DISPLAY CABINETS WITH QUASHNET FAMILY PICTURES.  PLEASE SEND IN A FAVORITE FAMILY PHOTO (5X7 OR SMALLER).  PLEASE INCLUDE TEXT ON THE BACK OF THE PHOTO (OR ON A SEPARATE SHEET) THAT IDENTIFIES WHO APPEARS IN THE PICTURE AND ALSO SOMETHING ABOUT THE EVENT/ACTIVITY.  THESE PHOTOS WILL BE DISPLAYED THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AND RETURNED TO YOU IN JUNE.

YOU COME TO LOVE NOT BY FINDING THE PERFECT PERSON BUT BY SEEING AN IMPERFECT PERSON PERFECTLY.  Sam Keen
