It’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years--  Abraham Lincoln

BE THANKFUL
School CancellationsIf a school day is cancelled due to poor weather, the following school day will be the missed day in our 6-Day cycle.
Hello Quashnet School Community,
The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.  Intelligence plus character--that is the goal of true education.  Martin Luther King, Jr.
When we think about Martin Luther King., Jr., and his life’s focus, we have to think about our children.  We want their world to be one in which each person is treated fairly and with respect.  We, as parents and educators, must model and teach the behaviors we expect from the next generation who will grow into our citizens of tomorrow.  No one is perfect, and we hopefully learn from our mistakes.  Dr. King wanted a world where his children would be judged by the content of their character not by their skin color.  We need to take the time to get to know a person before we make assumptions about that person.  Don’t judge a book by its cover.  Welcome and celebrate the diversity that makes life interesting.  Value each individual for the quality human being that he/she is.  When we interact with students who may have made a poor choice, we always emphasize the importance of their choosing to be a person of good character.  What can be learned?  The journey to adulthood is taken one step at a time.

2014 QUASHNET SCHOOL COUNCIL PARENT SURVEY
All parents with emails in our Power School data management system should have received an email that was sent out on 1/15/14 at 8:00 AM providing a link to a parent survey created by the Quashnet School Council.  We sent hard copies of the survey home with students whose parents do not have an email address in our system.  We would greatly appreciate your taking some time to respond to the survey.  For some questions, we hope that you will have a conversation with your child when answering.  The survey will remain open until 6:00 PM on Friday, January 24th.  If you did not get our email message and would like the link to the survey, please email Mrs. DeBoer at pdeboer@mashpee.k12.ma.us.

SUPPLIES FOR MILITARY DOGS SERVING IN AFGHANISTAN
Fifth grader Conor Baron is asking for your help.  He is collecting supplies for the "Rocky Warriors" a program that provides needed supplies for military dogs serving in Afghanistan.  This program is supported by the Cape Cod Cares for the Troops (CCC4TT) organization. Conor has placed a box outside our main office where your donated items can be placed.  Eight to twelve “doggie” care packages are sent over to Afghanistan every six weeks through Operation Cares. Requested items include:  dog treats, dog food, tennis balls, blankets, towels, dog toys, baby wipes, spray bottles, etc. Conor will be collecting items up until February vacation.  As always, Conor and the Quashnet School greatly appreciate your support of this project.

Quashnet’s 2014 Popcorn Fundraiser
Our 2014 Popcorn Fundraiser will run from January 8 – January 22, 20l4.  This is a great way to purchase delicious popcorn and to support student activities at the same time.  The air-popped popcorn contains no artificial flavoring or coloring and sells for just $5.00 per bag.  Eleven delicious flavors are available.  A flyer, order form, and collection envelope went home with each student on January 8th.  The top seller at each grade level will receive an order-out lunch with a friend (local restaurant of winner’s choice).  The overall top seller also wins a $50 gift card (winner’s choice of vendor).  Links are included below for the flyer and order form.  Please encourage your extended family, neighbors, and other friends to purchase some delicious popcorn and support activities for our students.  As always, we are very grateful for the support our school receives from our families and our community.

Help us Support Mr. Palmer
