Dear Quashnet School Community,

Quashnet Clubs start this week!  Your child was given a club confirmation on Friday.  If you did not receive it, please check your child's backpack.  If you have any questions at all regarding participation, please contact Mrs. Ryder at fryder@mpspk12.org or call 508-539-1550. Pick up from the clubs is at 4:20 PM.  Please park and come to the front foyer of the school.  We cannot accommodate our regular dismissal protocol for afterschool clubs as we do not have the same staffing at that time of day.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE LATE BUS

There are two late buses that are assigned for after-school clubs.  The late bus leaves Quashnet by 4:30 PM.  One late bus covers the Rt. 130 side of town, one covers the Route 151 side of town and South Mashpee is split between the two.  There is NOT a scheduled drop-off time for your child because there is not a consistent list of students who ride the late bus. The drivers work hard to get students home safely and as soon as possible. We will be in the office until the last bus clears each day and we know all students are home or have reached their destination.

GRADE 5&6 PARENT NOTIFICATION

Beginning on Monday, 9/26/22, all Grade 5 & 6 students will be participating in postural screenings with Nurse Terri.  Students will be screened 1:1 during their physical education class in the privacy of the health office. If you do not want your child participating in this required screening, please contact Nurse Terri asap at trichards@mpspk12.org or at 508-539-1550 x4155. Parents/guardians are informed of the results from postural screening if a further medical evaluation is needed.

Two Important Reminders from Superintendent DeBoer's Friday Happenings:

ORANGE SHIRT DAY

FRIDAY,SEPTEMBER 30, 2022

We are partnering with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe to recognize Orange Shirt Day on September 30, 2022. Orange Shirt Day was started in Canada in 2013 and its function is to create awareness of the individual, family, and community intergenerational impacts of Indian Residential Schools through Orange Shirt Day activities, and to promote the concept of "Every Child Matters.”  All in our school community are encouraged to wear orange shirts on September 30th to commemorate the children lost to Indian Boarding Schools.
Everyone is invited to join the event at the Mashpee rotary at 5:30 PM on the 30th and to the social following at the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Government Center.

TOWN OF MASHPEE

LOCAL COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

Your help is needed! The town of Mashpee’s Local Comprehensive Plan is being updated for the first time since 1998.  Town Planner, Evan Lehrer, would like to hear about your vision for the future and what we need to be doing now and in the near future to ensure Mashpee remains a community where children and families can thrive.

Please consider attending the Parents and Students Virtual Workshop on September 26, 2022, 6:30 PM-8:30 PM and share your priorities for the future.  Linked here is a letter from the Town Planner with more information.

Wishing you all a great week ahead.

Respectfully,

Principal O'Brien
