April 10, 2022

Dear Quashnet School Community,

One MCAS test down and Math and Science to go! All Quashnet School students will be administered the Math MCAS test on May 3 & 4.  Only fifth graders will take the Science (STE) MCAS which is scheduled for May 10 & 11. Please note that if a student is absent on the day of any MCAS session, they will be scheduled for a makeup test upon their return to school. MCAS results will be shared with parents/guardians in the fall.

Thank you for encouraging best effort and having students to school on time for testing!

Check out these statistics on the ST Math update. Students are really building their mathematical skills!

WAY TO GO QUASHNET!

THANK YOU TEAM QUASHNET and the QUASHNET COMMUNITY!

Our fundraiser for UNICEF USA to benefit the children of Ukraine has totaled over $1,500! An exact total will be shared soon.

The Quashnet School Student Council and Honor Society worked hard to organize, spread the word, and collect the funds. This is an example of a building block for the Portrait of a Graduate 💙

Friday is the home opener at Fenway Park - show your Red Sox pride this Friday, April 15.  Wear anything Red Sox or red, white, and blue!

It is SO wonderful to welcome our families back into school.
We hope you will be able to join us!

It is that time of year to place your order for the Quashnet School 2021-2022 Yearbook.  Orders may be placed electronically at  ybpay.lifetouch.com - our school code is 14707622.

ALL GRADE 6 students will receive a FREE yearbook as a "graduation" gift from QS.

Be sure to check out the pictures on the learning tab above. Last week in Grade 6 STEM, students were designing and testing their own protective helmets. If a pack of graham crackers doesn't break when the prototype is dropped - it is sweet success! If the crackers break, it's back to the drawing board. This week, y
ou will see pictures of Grade 4 students testing out their self-made instruments. Students designed the instrument and then wired it to a Makey-Makey - after coding, students are able to play their instruments.  The next step is to bring these self-made instruments to Music special and learn to play them.  So cool and a great collaboration between STEM and Music. Thank you, Mrs. Whiddon, Mrs. Hill, and Mrs. Boyd!

QS's English Language teacher, Mrs. Schneeweiss, brought our English learners on a visit to K. C. Coombs School this week to read books they wrote in English to our younger learners.  What a great opportunity for our newcomers to practice reading and writing in English. Well done!  English is a challenging language - we spend all 12 years of school trying to master it - these students have had less than a year speaking English - what an accomplishment!

April Vacation is coming up next week. School will be closed from April 18-22, but that doesn't mean we take time off from learning.  Here are some fun family opportunities that make learning fun:

It's Mashpee Public Library's Birthday!  Check out the events during vacation week:  https://mashpeepubliclibrary.org

With a Clams Card, there are numerous museum passes you can reserve - check it out HERE. Visit a museum in Boston, New Bedford, and many local locations.

I hope you all have a fun-filled and safe spring vacation. There will be no QS Blog next Sunday, the next posting will be on Sunday, April 24.

Easter, Passover, and Ramadan are all overlapping this year. Wishing you each wonderful holiday with family and friends!

Respectfully,

Principal O'Brien
