February 21, 2021

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Welcome back to school to all of our in-person and remote learners this week! I hope you all had a great week to relax, rejuvenate, and hopefully play in the snow.  What a wintery week!

School begins tomorrow, Monday, February 22, right at 9:05 AM.  If you are a remote learner this week, please be prepared with your learning material handy and ready to log in.  All of our in-person learners, it will be great to welcome you back!

A reminder for out-of-state travelers - if you went away, please be sure to check the current state guidelines for returning to Massachusetts.  The link is HERE. If you have additional questions and/or you are unclear if your child can return to school, please call or text our District Nurse Coordinator Stacey Schakel at 781-775-7605. She can also be reached at sschakel@mpspk12.org.  We truly appreciate your cooperation and support in following these guidelines.

Grade 3 students were all treated with a very nice surprise from the Falmouth Elks.  Each student received their own copy of a dictionary.  Students were amazed at all the great words and interesting facts you can discover on the pages. These dictionaries were put to instant use in writing letters of gratitude. We appreciate the generosity of the Falmouth Elks in remembering our Grade 3 students each year.

Monday, February 22, will be the 92nd day of the school year. The Quashnet staff continues to work hard to support all students and families as we navigate this unusual year together. We recognize and appreciate parents and guardians being active partners in teaching.  The following are strategies to support your child this year:

1. Check the landing page and playlist of your child's teacher. The landing page will have links and contact information; the playlist is for the daily lessons. The link is HERE for easy access.

2. If your child is on a remote week - pickup learning materials supplied by the teachers. We will resume Friday's remote pick-up between 1:30 and 2:30 PM. Having the materials needed will make a huge difference in your child's ability to follow classroom instruction and meet expectations.

3. Be sure to have children in school during in-person learning weeks unless they are sick or requiring quarantine. If a child is on a remote learning week, home chores should not be done during the school day.

4. If you have questions about your child's progress, reach out to your child's teachers. Contact information is on the landing page or call the main office (508-539-1550) and leave a message.

5. Quashnet School has a team of three skilled counselors. They can be reached easily through the landing page link above for any social-emotional questions you may have.

6. Mr. Kapulka and I are available every day to troubleshoot, answer questions, or provide support.

7. Know we are here for the whole child, your child, each student is important to us.  If something is great, or if something isn't working well, let us know. A strong home/school connection supports all students.

We received this extremely thoughtful poster from our friends, the Southport Falcons.

The Southport Falcons are a team of residents from the local Southport retirement community who have generously volunteered their time to help our school and students.  We look forward to post-COVID days when we can welcome them and all of our wonderful volunteers back!

Thank you for your support!

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

Respectfully,

Principal O'Brien

The snow worked well for Grade 4 students to form volcanoes and then observe what happens when they erupt!  Fun hands-on-learning! More photos can be found on the tab above.
