March 25, 2018
Dear Quashnet School Community,
It looks like spring is actually coming this week with a little warmer weather, rain but warmer. I am ready! Spring is a short season on Cape Cod, but this is ridiculous! It is good that this month has been focused on so many positive student centered events. Music has been everywhere! This week, Quashnet School's Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Boyd hosted approximately 300 students from school districts across the Cape and Islands for the 42nd Annual String Jamboree. It was wonderful to hear the students all play together in elementary, intermediate, and advanced groups. Music teachers from each district took turns conducting, with our Mrs. Hill leading the entire gym of musicians in America the Beautiful for the finally. Our students and teachers did a beautiful job representing Mashpee!
K-Kids are working very hard to reach their 2018 goal for Pennies for Patients. This is an annual fundraising effort where students can donate change. This year's goal is to raise $2,018 dollars. As of Friday they have collected a total of $1,955.21. With only about $63 to go, WE'VE GOT THIS! Thank you for participating - let's get there this week!
Did you know that the Quashnet School Talent Show is this Thursday at the MMHS auditorium @ 6:00 PM? This is a great night to showcase student interests and talents. Come out and support our performers/participants. It is SURE to be an entertaining evening and there could be some surprises. This is an event not to be missed!
The Spelling Bee is coming soon! Notifications were sent home last week - be sure sign up now! The Quashnet School Spelling Bee is open to ALL students in Grades 3-6 and participation is encouraged. The actual event takes place on Thursday after April vacation. Word lists are generated from Scripps National Spelling Bee word lists and they are updated slightly every year. Be sure to get the 2018 Quashnet School list to study from.
This is the last week to complete your Read Across America map. Keep coloring in those states which represent a variety of reading tasks. Remember, one activity can be used for more than one state. If you read a poem for example and it was recommended by either Mrs. O'Brien or Mrs. Avtges it could count for two categories, a poem and a recommendation. If you are looking for a recommendation from me try https://100.best-poems.net/paul-reveres-ride.html. This will take you to a true American classic, Paul Revere's Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. You can also enjoy other poems and poets from there. Happy reading!
The Blue Falcon Theatre Company performed The Little Mermaid this weekend. It was terrific! I hope you had an opportunity to see the show. Congratulations to all - well done!
