February 11, 2018

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Wishing you all a joyful Valentines Day this Wednesday, February 14th.  As we celebrate the holiday, please keep in mind the MPS Wellness Policy.  Candy, cupcakes and treats should not be brought into school. Pencils, bookmarks, notes, etc. are fine.  If your child is bringing in Valentines, they should be for the entire class.  We all appreciate your support and cooperation. Happy Valentines Day!

Although our team came out strong, the KCC parent/teacher basketball team was victorious Friday night. Be sure to check out the photos from the game. Every penny you spend to support the PTO goes directly back to all of our students.  There was a 50/50 raffle at the game with approx. $450 to be split. THANK YOU to an anonymous winner who DONATED their winnings back to the PTO. Mashpee is a caring and connected community which was clearly demonstrated Friday night.  WAY TO GO MASHPEE!
Quashnet Strong!

The Quashnet Student Council is in the process of counting and organizing books from the book drive.  So far there are over 4000 books being delivered to Boston's Children's Hospital from Mashpee families. Wow!  As soon as I have the exact total, I will be sure to post it along with the classes who donated the largest amount. Thank you, Miss Forsberg and the Student Council, for leading this worthwhile cause!

Here it is...registration is now open online @

MPS Nurse Coordinator, Nurse Stacey, along with Mrs.
McCue, QS guidance counselor, and Deputy Shaun Cahill of the Barnstable County Sheriff's Department will be facilitating the Botvin LifeSkills Training for Parents, Grandparents, and Caregivers. The focus is on substance use prevention with a series of three classes. We will be hosting both a day and evening session for your convenience, one at 8:15 AM and again at 5:30 PM. The dates are March 12, 19, and 26th. Dinner will be served and babysitting will be available for the evening.

Several weeks ago,I asked for any information you would like to share regarding placement for the 2018-2019 school year. I am beginning the preliminary placements over February vacation. Although the practice is not to request a specific classroom teacher for your child, if you would like to share any thoughts about placement with me for next year, please send me an email at mobrien@mpspk12.org   The placement process is a challenging one as every student's learning style, instructional level, and social situations are considered. Placement is not done in isolation, classroom teachers, special subject teachers, and counselors all have input in this process to help ensure a productive and balanced learning environment.

Mark you calendars for Thursday, March 1 for.....

There is a special egg drop challenge this year.  What a great project to work on over February break!

The next Blog will be sent out on Sunday, February 25th.  Wishing you all a safe, enjoyable, and relaxing vacation week ahead!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
