Dear Quashnet School Community,
It is the most wonderful time of the year... back to school time!
Team Quashnet is so excited to welcome our new third graders, new students, as well as welcoming back all of our returning scholars!
Every year is a fresh start, a new beginning, a time to meet new teachers and friends, learn new skills, and grow academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. A new year brings a great opportunity to set goals and work to make this year a personal best.
Yes, it is the most wonderful time of the year!
To get an early start, be sure to come by school this Thursday, August 31st, between 2:00 and 3:00 PM for our annual
Sneak-a-Peek. Get to know where your class is, meet your teachers, and see some friends.
The official first day of school for students is TUESDAY, September 5th. Teachers will meet students in the designated areas listed below the first day of school.
Grade 3: Students should all be wearing their lanyard indicating their name, teacher, and bus number. All third grade teachers will be in the back of the school on the grass by the bus drop off.
Grade 4: Teachers will meet students in the cafeteria.
Grades 5 and 6: Teachers will meet students in the gym.
After all students have arrived, the teachers will lead the students to their classrooms. No student should go directly to the class. Please know, all hands will be on deck to ensure students are where they need to be.
In case you haven't heard, we have a beautiful new playground at Quashnet School. We were are so appreciative of the support from the residents of Mashpee who voted to fund this project at Town Meeting. The final phase is being installed this weekend, and it will be ready for action sometime this week - I will tweet it out!
Below is a message from Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Boyd regarding INSTRUMENT RENTALS. We are happy to welcome Mrs. Boyd as a new music teacher as Miss Sherman has taken another position off Cape. We wish both much success!
Greetings, families of soon-to-be 4th grade musicians!
Thank you for signing your child up for an instrument this year. If your child does not already have their instrument, a representative from Music & Arts will be in the Quashnet School lobby from 4-6 pm on Monday, August 28 to assist you in ordering an instrument to be delivered in time for our first lessons, beginning in the first few days of school. You can also order online at www.musicarts.com. Instruments ordered online should be delivered to Quashnet School. Students will not bring instruments home until they have had their first lesson, to ensure they know proper care.
Please note, you are free to choose to rent or buy your instrument anywhere you desire. The rental company comes to our school as a service, but is not required. If you are using Music & Arts, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, bell kit (percussion), violin, and viola cost roughly $30 per month. Alto sax and cello cost roughly $45 per month. This is a rent-to-own program; when the amount of rent you have paid equals the cost of the instrument, you own it. Please contact our Music & Arts rep Paul Weller directly for total instrument costs and any other payment questions. (781-582-1152.)
String instruments come in sizes. All students who signed up for string instruments were measured in June. Mrs. Hill has a list of those sizes (email below). You can also choose to measure your child yourself (https://thevault.musicarts. com/sizing-your-string- instrumemt/), or bring your child to the rental event to be measured. (This is recommended if your child has grown significantly over the summer!)
Quashnet School has a limited number of instruments available for use by students unable to participate in the rental program. Additionally, Music & Arts offers scholarship instruments. Please let Mrs. Hill or Mrs. Boyd know if you intend to apply for a scholarship instrument.
As stated above, instrument lessons begin in the first few days of school. It is our hope that all students will have instruments as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact the music department with any questions.

Quashnet School Council Needs You!
Are you interested in helping to develop an improvement plan for our school, discussing programing, budget, and other important issues that we face? If so, then volunteering for the QS School Council is for you!
The Council is comprised of three parents, three teachers, one community member, and the building principal. Meetings are help approximately 6 times per year. The times of the meetings will be determined to meet the needs of the members. As teachers are on the Council, meetings are help outside of school hours.
It is important that the council represent the diverse population of our student body so all voices and perspectives are represented. Please reach out if you are curious, interested, or all in! We need you!
The following link provides specific information from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on the role of school councils - School Councils . I look forward to hearing from you -please contact me at mobrien@mpspk12.org.
Please note the tabs on the Home page of the Blog - Bus Routes have been published and there is a link on the tab. You will also find weekly photos posted here, and the monthly breakfast and lunch menus. You are able to translate the Blog to a language of your choice, hopefully the Google translate is accurate! School clubs, MCAS updates, and report card information is also available. If you are looking for information that is not easily accessible, please let me know and I am happy to add a link for your convenience. We are all a work in progress and with feedback we can only get better.
