May 14, 2017

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

A mother's love can never be replaced or forgotten.  I hope all the mom's out there have had a terrific day.  It is one of the hardest and most important jobs there is and the most rewarding.  Happy Mother's Day!

Mashpee's Town Election is right here at Quashnet School this Tuesday, May 16th.  Parent drop off and pickup can be challenging on voting days as there are many people who are not familiar with our parking lot or the drop off/pick up process.  Mashpee Police Chief Carline has arranged for additional officers to be at Quashnet during these times.  While you are here, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE support the Quashnet School Repair Project by voting YES! YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED to move this work forward. There was approval at Town Meeting, but that was only part 1 of this 2 part process.  We need a healthy school and these repairs are long overdue.  VOTE YES for Quashnet School!

This Wednesday, May 17th, is the first annual Third Grade Concert. Please come to see our students shine!  The performance will begin at 6:00 PM and will be directed
by our outstanding music teachers, Mrs. Hill and Ms. Sherman.  Third grade students have been learning how to play the ukulele and recorder this year as well as xylophones. Charge your phones and cameras because it will be a memorable evening!

Are you looking for a great family night out? This coming Friday, Mrs. Richards, our art teacher, will be hosting a family paint night at Quashnet School from 6-8 PM.
Use the follow link to sign up. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0C48A4AE2EA6FC1-family1  Every artist will be given their own supplies and be provided with step-by-step instructions on how to paint A Day at the Beach - pictured to the right.  Space is limited so don't wait too long. When you sign up, put the painter's name in the comment section.

On Friday, May 19th, there will be a Post-MCAS celebration for third graders being organized by Robert O'Neill, Paul Casey, Colton Colleran, and Braden Fraser, 6th grade National Elementary Honor Society students. They have recruited teachers, staff, and parents to help run a variety of fun stations for our third graders. Pre-registration is required. Planning service activities or participating in volunteer initiates is a requirement of NEHS. Collectively, they have done fabulous work for others.

Speaking of helping others - the QS School Council, the QS NEHS, and the K-Kids have all joined together to push forward the service dog initiative. Be on the lookout for a flyer coming home soon.
If we all work together, hopefully we could have a pup by Veterans Day and fulfill this goal this year!
Can you believe we are almost at $10,000? Wow!

There is still time to purchase tickets to the Murder Mystery Prom Night - an adult night out sponsored by the PTO.  It is going to be so much fun.  There is a theater group that will be setting the
 stage for the murder mystery.

Come out and have some fun at Quashnet Valley Country Club on May 20th from 6-10 PM.  The price of the ticket will include dinner.

Tickets can be purchased by contacting

Participating in PTO events directly benefits Quashnet students.  This year the PTO has purchased books to support the curriculum,  helped fund a field trip, supplied specialized furniture to several classrooms, sponsored two authors to visit and work with students, helped to fund Wampanoag Day at Quashnet, sponsored a movie night, and purchased games for indoor recess,  just to name a few. Thank you for supporting the PTO. We appreciate the help and support in providing enrichment opportunities for our students.

There is another great event for our special olympians coming up.  On Saturday, May 20th @ Barnstable High School there is a regional track meet.  Our Quashnet Falcons Unified Track Team will be competing.  Open ceremonies begin at 9:00 AM!
GO FALCONS -GO TEAM!

We have two more days of MCAS - fifth grade will be tested in Science/Technology Engineering on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  It is important that students are here on time and in school. This is the one MCAS assessment that is not completed on the Chromebook - students will be using paper and pencil!

Wishing you all a wonderful and productive week ahead!
Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
