June 18, 2017

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Well here it is....the last week of the 2016-2017 school year!  I don't really know how this happens so quickly except time really does fly! Please know that all of us here at Quashnet School are so grateful for the time we spend with your children, our wonderful students.  Thank you for your trust, support, and partnership in their educational journey.

This is a time of year where we also reflect on the successes of the year and some of the challenges.  I am asking for your help in this task.  The following link is a brief survey for parents and guardians that was created by the QS School Council. Your input is important and valued and will be considered as we work to be the best school we can be!  School Council Survey.  (This is the same link from the Sunday email).

Opportunity for volunteering - This fall we will be seeking interested parents/guardians who will be willing to serve on the Quashnet School Council. The Council meets approximately six times during the school year.  The Council reviews the school handbook policies, writes the school mission statement and vision, and is instrumental in creating the School Improvement Plan.  The Quashnet School Council consists of 3-4 parent/guardians, 2-3 teachers, one community member, and the building principal.  My hope would be to have a diverse group that represents our student body. If you are interested please email me at mobrien@mpspk12.org. Meeting times will be determined based on the needs of the members.

6th graders after the run!

A special shout out to Mr. Morris on planning a fun field day experience!  It was a great opportunity to partner with MMHS as student volunteers helped run each activity.  I think it was one of the hottest field days on record, but it was great to see the excitement and fun being had by all.

There are many pictures on the photo tab above.

Please RETURN ANY AND ALL LIBRARY BOOKS to our school library.  If a missing book can't be found, please settle that financial obligation so your child will receive their report card on the last day of school.  If there is a challenge meeting this obligation, please contact me directly. If you are unsure of the cost, please contact our school librarian, Mrs. Pons at kpons@mpspk12.org .

Check this out!
At the Grade 6 Awards Ceremony, Quashnet School was presented with a check from Stop & Shop for participation in the A+ School Rewards Program.  Quashnet School came in second place out all of the participating schools on the Cape with this amazing check. Thank you Mrs. Emery, Mrs. Johnson, and the QS Student Council for their hard work in this achievement. Thank you families for your support.  By registering your Stop & Shop card and just using it, a portion of the sales come back to the school.  We are very grateful as these funds help us with field trips, student supplies, and the school Right Choice store plus more.

Last but not least, CONGRATULATIONS Grade 6 students! We will miss you as you head off to MMHS and spread your Falcon Wings.  You are ready to soar.  We will watch you continue to grow and meet new challenges. We will read about your successes academically, with technology, in sports, as actors, artists, singers, and musicians.  Remember to be mindful and be in the moment, remember the Falcon Five, your teachers and the skills you have learned at Quashnet School.  You have left your mark here at Quashnet and we will wait to welcome you back. Work hard and prosper! You are ready!

With gratitude and respect,
Mrs. O'Brien
